The Tin Lizzies unit is an old and established unit of Abdallah Shrine. In 1995, we celebrated our 25th anniversary. We normally have approximately 30 members. Our unit dues are $15 per year plus a $20 assessment per year to support the two dances, one in January and the other in September, we host each year. These are our primary fund raisers to support our unit and make donations to the Children's Hospitals or building funds. Abdallah Shrine also requires that we carry insurance coverage on our Tin Lizzies while we parade and this cost is $35 per vehicle.

The Tin Lizzies meet the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in Room 2 at the Abdallah Shrine center. Our ladies, the Lizziettes, have their meetings at the same time in Room 1. Afterwards, we have a joint meeting and refreshments.

Our parade uniform consists of black slacks and a white "unit" shirt which costs about $40. Our dress uniform is gray slacks and a navy blue blazer, white shirt, and red tie. The Lizziettes also have dress and parade uniforms.

A new member has sixty days to purchase a tin lizzie, which is a 1/8 scale 1910 Ford Model T, powered by a 3.5 HP Briggs and Stratton engine. Our unit generally has a few used cars available and range in price from $400 to $650.

We invite you and your lady to come visit our unit meeting and get acquainted. If you would like to stop by or more information, please call Abdallah Shrine office, (913) 362-5300, or the representative listed in Abdallah Shrine's monthly newsletter, "The Playground". We'll be looking for you.
